Lichen actually bonds to the mineral surface of shingles and uses acid secretions to extract minerals, causing permanent pitting and granule loss.

Standard algae cleaning solutions are not strong enough to kill lichen. Roof ReNu ATX uses a specialized lichen treatment protocol with a longer dwell time and higher-concentration solution designed to penetrate the lichen's holdfasts. After treatment, dead lichen is rinsed away gently and we document pre-treatment conditions with photos.
